Where do cocktails come from?
There are many occasions to enjoy cocktails. At an aperitif with friends, at a reception or even a summer dinner with the family. But have you ever wondered where this invention came from?
First of all, we can look at the English ethymology - cock tail. It's a multi-coloured composition, with a variety of ingredients brought together in a very colourful presentation.
The origin of the cocktail is not precisely defined, but there are several legends. One of them says that the cocktail comes from a mispronounced word. In fact, when a barman was serving bitter in a bar in England, his customers misunderstood the word and pronounced it ‘cocktail’. Legend or reality, you decide.
