Father's Day, where does it come from?
Father's Day is a long-standing tradition in France and elsewhere. Just like mums, dads also have the right to their own special day! But where does this tradition come from?
Father's Day has its roots in ... the 15th century! At the time, this day had a religious connotation. It was a celebration of Joseph, the father of Jesus. But over the decades, Father's Day lost popularity. It was at the beginning of the 20th century, when it was transformed into a civil celebration, that it was given a new breath.
In France, Father's Day took root in the 1950s. A little anecdote: it was the lighter manufacturer Flaminaire who, looking for an innovative idea to sell as many of its lighters as possible, decided to launch Father's Day in its commercial form. Today, Father's Day is a well-established tradition and, above all, an opportunity to give dad a present!
So here are some ideas for pampering your dad with cognac and pineau, and surprising him with some great products!
Our gift ideas to pamper your dad

Father's Day gift idea: pamper him with a cognac
Yes, many men are lovers of spirits and cognac! As independent winemakers, Elise and Mathilde produce quality cognacs that are light and delicate. They'll surprise your dad with cognacs that are off the beaten track.
Our recommendation? XO Hors d'Age
One of the oldest cognacs in our range! This XO is characterised by spicy notes and a slightly smoky finish. Whisky lovers love this cognac, as they find similar sensations on the palate.
This cognac can be drunk with a meal or as an after-dinner drink. It goes perfectly with a dark chocolate dessert!
An extraordinary tasting experience.
Father's Day gift idea: spoil him with a Pineau des Charentes
If your dad likes lighter drinks, Pineau des Charentes is a good idea! This liqueur wine from the Charente region is very tasty and guaranteed to please.
Our gift idea? Pineau Extra Vieux Blanc
This Pineau is a perfect example of the Guillon-Painturaud house, which specialises in long ageing. Aged for at least 12 years, this extra old Pineau is made from Ugni Blanc and Sémillon grapes. The Sémillon grape adds a sweet, luscious touch to the product! It offers notes of candied fruit, dried fruit and toasted almonds. Its strength comes from the complexity of its aromas and its impressive length on the palate!
This Extra Vieux Pineau Blanc can be enjoyed as an aperitif, with a meal or as an after-dinner drink! It goes very well with ‘foie gras’ or fruit tarts.
Pineaux this old are harder to find, so you're sure to make an original and surprising gift!
Father's Day gift idea: pamper him with an original activity
If your dad lives in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region or is planning to go there, why not pamper him with an original activity based around cognac and pineau?
At Domaine Guillon-Painturaud, we offer a Pineau Workshop and an Escape Game all year round.
Pineau Workshop: your dad can make his own blend of Pineau des Charentes, and take his creation home with him!
Escape Game: locked in an old grape-pickers' room, your dad and anyone else he chooses will have 1 hour to find the recipe for making cognac!
Unique experiences for your dad in the form of gift cards !
