Terre labourée pour plantation vigne

The planting of the vine in Charente

The vineyard is renewed little by little.

How does the planting of vines work?

Each year, a parcel of land is selected. The old vines are pulled out and burned.
The soil is plowed for a winter rest. In the spring, the land is leveled and prepared for the future planting.

Why are the vines pulled out?

The objective is to provide the best conditions for the new vines. These have been scrupulously selected by our nurseryman.
The rootstock is adapted to our limestone soil of great champagne. The grape variety is defined by the specifications of our designation. The planting is now mechanical. Thanks to a GPS connection, the regularity of the rows can be quickly defined.
This saves time for the winegrower and their team. As after any planting, we hope for a rain shower to optimise the recovery.
Patience is required, we will have to take great care of these new vines for 3 years, before the first harvest and then 5 more years for our future VSOP Cognac.
